Membrane Color – At-home Monitoring of Pets with Heart Disease

The mucous membranes are a very quick and easy way to assess whether there is good blood flow and whether an appropriate amount of oxygen is reaching all parts of the body. Normally, the gums should look pink and feel moist. If the gums appear pale, bluish in color, white, gray, yellow, spotted (with red dots), or dark red, this could be a sign of poor circulation or more serious disease.
