Update on Foster Hospital Entry Information

We are delighted to welcome owners back inside the hospital effective Monday, November 29. To keep you and our team safe, all of our students and employees are vaccinated against COVID-19 and undergo weekly testing.

We continue to experience long wait times for appointments and emergency visits. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we do our best to provide the needed services for you and your pet.

Consistent with all health care facilities, we require all employees and clients to wear masks when inside our buildings. If you are unable or choose not to wear a mask, you will not be permitted inside and must continue to access our services through curbside drop-off and pick-up. We are also able to offer curbside service if that is your preference.  Please let us know when we schedule your appointment if you would like curbside service.

If you have any respiratory symptoms (cough, runny nose, sore throat), muscle aches, or fever on the day of your visit, you will also be accommodated through curbside service. Please notify us on arrival if you have any of these symptoms and remain in your car.

To make your visit as comfortable as possible, we have created a listing of helpful phone numbers, available restrooms, wi-fi access details, and local resources.

Thank you for trusting us with your pet’s care—and for the extraordinary cooperation, patience, and flexibility you’ve shown in helping us maintain a safe environment for all throughout this extended crisis.

General Update on Hospital Operations

  • No more than one person may enter with the pet. If you have children who cannot be left alone in the car, we can provide curbside service.
  • Bathrooms are available in the lobby. Vending machines are also available but we do not allow eating and drinking inside the lobby.
  • Medication refills can be picked up at the front desk. To request a refill, please call the pharmacy refill line at 508-887-4850. Payment can be taken over the phone when you call this number.
  • Inpatient visits are not allowed except for certain critically ill animals; all visits need to be pre-approved by the Hospital director.
  • In the unfortunate need for euthanasia, two family members can be present if they desire.
  • Donations of bedding and towels are temporarily suspended as we have so many at the moment. We appreciate the wonderful generosity of owners and thank everyone who has donated.
  • For Pet Emergencies
  • Please call ahead (508-839-5395) so we can confirm that your pet needs to be seen by our emergency service and to give you instructions on how to proceed.
  • When you arrive, please enter the door into the vestibule at the emergency entrance.
  • While our doctors are attending to your pet you may wait in the lobby.

For Appointments

  • Upon arrival at the Foster Hospital, please come into the lobby unless you cannot wear a mask, have personal health concerns, or have small children that cannot wait alone in the car.
  • If you have any respiratory symptoms (cough, runny nose, sore throat), muscle aches, or a fever on the day of your visit, you will also be accommodated through curbside service. Please notify us on arrival if you have any of these symptoms and remain in your car.
  • After entering with your pet and checking in at the front desk a clinical service member will greet you and provide guidelines for the appointment.
  • If your pet’s visit is likely to take some time, e.g., X-rays or ultrasound, we ask that you return later rather than wait here. We will call or text you when we are ready to discuss the results.
  • While your pet is at the hospital, please remain available by phone to discuss exam findings and care options.
  • For discharge, we will contact you to check out at the front desk. Discharge instructions will be provided verbally, and then emailed to you within 12 hours of your visit.

Policies for Hospitalized Patients

  • The Foster Hospital has suspended all inpatient visits except for certain critically ill patients (see above).
  • No personal items can be retained with the pet while hospitalized, including blankets, toys, collars, leashes, etc.
