Our staff recognizes the importance of pets having nurturing time with their loved ones as they recover, and we encourage clients to visit their pet regularly. It is important, however, to understand that not all animals are comforted by human contact when they are seriously ill. Therefore, the care team may limit the frequency and duration of visits if the patient develops signs of distress during visitation (such as increased heart rate, increased respiration, or other signs of agitation).
In order to ensure optimal medical care for all hospitalized patients, clients with pets in the Foster Small Animal Hospital are expected to comply with the following guidelines:
5 pm to 8 pm, Monday - Friday
1 pm to 3 pm, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays
At the FHSA we understand the special bond that exists between pets and their owners, especially if the pet is ill and in the hospital. We also understand the desire of owners to visit their hospitalized pet. However, we are currently not allowing visitors to our patient wards, as most pets return home within a few days.
If the pet is in the hospital for more than three days, we may allow a short visit which must be approved by hospital administration and scheduled in advance with the doctor.
If a pet is critically ill in our intensive care unit, we allow a short visit that is approved by hospital administration and scheduled by the doctor taking care of the pet. We regret that we cannot accommodate any visits that are not arranged ahead of time.
