Important COVID-19 Guidance from Foster Hospital for Small Animals

With the rising threat of COVID-19, we have had to make some difficult decisions necessary to protect the health of our employees and to protect you as our client while we continue to deliver care to pets in our community. The following new policies are effective immediately.  Thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone who works and depends upon Foster Hospital.

Update on Hospital Operations:

  • Foster Hospital has transitioned to provide emergency care only until further notice.
  • No new appointments will be made at this time. Referrals requiring essential care will be managed through our emergency service.
  • Non-urgent appointments will be rescheduled. Pet owners can expect to receive a phone call to reschedule their appointment.
  • Clients will no longer be allowed to enter Foster Hospital. Veterinary staff will meet owners at their cars to receive or discharge their pets.
  • Medication refills will be mailed.  To request a refill, please call the pharmacy refill line 508-839-5395.
  • Food pick-up will take place outside the hospital.  Please call ahead (508-839-5395) to make arrangements.
  • Blanket donations are suspended.
  • All inpatient visits are suspended.

For Pet Emergencies

  • You must call ahead (508-839-5395) so we can confirm that your pet needs to be seen by our emergency service and to give you instructions on how to proceed.
  • If it is determined that your pet needs to be seen immediately, you will be given a phone number to call when you arrive at the parking lot.
  • All clients must wait in their car and not enter Foster Hospital.
  • We will meet you at your car to assess your pet and take it into the hospital.
  • We will call when the exam is complete.
  • Please note: that if you have a fever or respiratory/flu-like symptoms, we require that you ask someone healthy to bring your pet on your behalf.

New Policies for Hospitalized Patients

  • Effective immediately, Foster Hospital has suspended all inpatient visits.
  • No personal items can be retained with the pet while hospitalized, including blankets, toys, collars, leashes, etc.
  • Please clean your carrier, leash, and collar as carefully as possible before arrival with an alcohol-based solution.
