Dear Shelter Partner,
We hope you are well and safe during these difficult times. At the Lerner Clinic, we have been so saddened by the pandemic and all of the sadness and trouble in the world. While most of the clinics at Cummings School have been open in order to provide essential services to animals, our spay-neuter program has been on pause to allow time for PPE to become available and for us to develop protocols for social distancing and safe re-opening. Currently the final year veterinary students are poised to return to clinics on Monday, June 8. They have been put through additional orientation to address safety concerns with the pandemic. As we re-open the Lerner Clinic we have been following national guidelines: https://mcnt-files-prod.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/inline-files/COVID as well as requirements of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Tufts University.
Our plan is to re-open with the return of our students. In order to allow for social distance and decrease staff and client contact, we will schedule small daily clinics instead of traditional “high volume” clinics. We will also prioritize our shelter and rescue partners who can bring us 5 to 8 animals for a clinic. We will also be offering ‘touchless’ drop off for our rescue and shelter partners.
For community cats: we regret that we have no plans to restart the Sunday Community Cat Clinics in the next six months. For our partners who use these clinics, we will be offering them the ability to bring Community Cats to our regular weekday clinics at a rate of $25. This special rate applies only to past clients of the community cat clinic and only for cats in traps. Vaccines will be included only for community cats. Cats in traps are always ear-tipped and can be combo tested for an additional $25. Please note that we will only have 1 to 2 slots per clinic. We are planning some additional community cat clinics in July – stay tuned for further details on those. Dental Clinics: if our relaunch for spay-neuter goes well, we will be offering shelter partners slots for dental cleanings in the very near future. The cost of a shelter dental is $300 and includes dental radiographs as indicated.
We have many new safety procedures in place. Staff will be taking their temperatures twice a day, self-monitoring for symptoms, and will be wearing PPE. We will have fewer staff in our clinic each day and we will be closed every Monday for deep cleaning.
If you have animals to schedule, please contact Paula at LernerClinic@tufts.edu or call the clinic 508-887-4326. We will be billing our shelter/rescue clients as before and we will soon also be offering online payment.
We thank you so much for your patience with us during this unprecedented closure and we look forward to being able to serve you in the future.
